SolvAir's advanced MultiPack systems improve packaging processes, ensuring superior drying and energy efficiency in food production.
Pets Choice Ltd, based in Blackburn, dried its pet food trays with compressed air that was ineffective and energy-intensive, holding back plans to increase production speeds at its new facility. SolvAir replaced it with a MultiPack drying system, powered by a 4.0kW blower and three 305mm Air Knives, which allowed production speed to double.
Pets Choice Ltd’s drying process for pet food trays, using compressed air through pipes and flare nozzles, was ineffective and energy-intensive. The trays are conveyed at around 6 metres per minute before being sleeved in outer cardboard, and the system failed to adequately dry products of two different sizes, hindering plans to increase production speeds from 6 to 12-15 metres per minute at their new facility.
The ineffective compressed-air drying process led to wet products at the sleeving stage, risking packaging integrity and potentially compromising product quality. Because the system also constrained production speeds, it was hindering Pets Choice Ltd’s expansion plans and operational efficiency.
SolvAir installed a MultiPack drying system using a 4.0kW blower and three 305mm stainless steel Air Knives, which blow moisture from both the top and bottom of each tray as it is conveyed through them.
The system included a Variable Frequency Drive in its electrical control panel, ensuring optimal drying performance across different product sizes and weights and enabling the doubling of production speed. The Air Knives cover a larger surface area of each product than the compressed air system, which left water on the surfaces, and the MultiPack uses 4.0kW where the compressed air devices used more than 5 times the energy with fewer devices.
By addressing Pets Choice Ltd’s specific needs with our adaptable MultiPack system, we’ve showcased SolvAir’s ability to optimise high-volume food packaging processes. The solution’s flexibility supports their increased production speeds and diverse product range.
